It’s coming home!

Despite the fact that Pokémon have been jumping on the World Cup bandwagon for weeks now with trading cards they’re trying to associate with soccer, we’re actually talking about the World Championships!

Ever since we shared the success of Melbourne’s own Alfredo Chang-Gonzalez in Columbus, local news outlets have been paying attention, and we’re delighted to be able to share some of the coverage that has been shared about Pokémon today.

ABC Online

Firstly, Danny Tran from the ABC reached out wanting to do an interview with Alfredo for an article. Danny started out with Pokémon back in the Red & Blue days, and was surprised to find out that in that time that not only has Pokémon grown, but that it’s become a global community!

ABC Melbourne – Drive Show

From there, Alfredo then was asked to do a live interview on ABC Melbourne during the drive time show – there were a lot of questions about the amount of time he spends on the game, as well as a host trying his best to keep up with the conversation! Click on the play button in the title to listen to the whole interview.

The Project – Network Ten

And finally Alfredo also appeared on an interview on The Project on Network Ten during tonight’s show! Many of the questions were similar to the ABC Melbourne interview, focusing largely on balancing screen time and other activities, plus Peter Helliar doing his best to appear “cool” (spoiler alert, he fails miserably!) Check out the whole segment below!

We’re thrilled that Alfredo has been able to gain some exposure from his historic title defence in Columbus, and we’re hoping to see him again in the finals in Nashville next month for the World Championships!

About Tim Crockford

Tim, aka the PokeDad, after playing through the 2015 season of both VGC and TCG, realised that being beaten by 16 year olds at 32 probably wasn't the right way to go about attending events with his son, so in 2016 can be found at the judging tables doing his best to look like he belongs there.
