When: Sunday April 17th, 3pm-8pm AEST/1pm-6pm SGT.
Ruleset: VGC 2016 – Best of Three (3)
Format: 5 players per team, each player faces all opposing players over 5 rounds (5 matches per player, 25 matches total). Players will be permitted to change their teams between rounds.
- Malcolm Mackellar
- Luke Brown
- Tom Schultz
- Phil Nguyen
- Lynette Zheng
Players wishing to represent Australia competed in a Best-of-3, Single-Elimination tournament with players who make the Top 4 earning a spot on the team. The conclusion of Round 3 saw Mitch Kendrick, Nicholas Bingham, Malcolm Mackellar & Luke Brown reaching the Top 4. Due to other commitments Mitch and Nicholas have dropped from the Friendly, with Tom Shultz & Phil Nguyen being elevated in their place. The final spot was awarded to Lynette Zheng, who has been a consistent performer in Australia’s other VGC Friendlies this year.
At time of writing the qualifier tournament is still on-going, with Nicholas, Mitch, Malcolm & Luke fighting it out to earn 1st Place, and the $15 Nintendo e-shop voucher prize.
Good news – there will be a stream for this event provided by Singapore’s VGC community. The Mirage Island team have streamed numerous VGC events over the years – including last year’s VGC Friendly between the two nations. Our thanks to Tan Zong Ying of Singapore for arranging the stream for this event.
